“We used to do everything on paper. I’d have spreadsheets everywhere, bits of paper here, print outs there; it was chaos. What I wanted to do was bring it all together so that I could log into one system that would inform me what needs doing and when.”

What was your reason for seeking out project management software?

I realised that I required the ability to put all aspects of the project into one workflow for added efficiency. We used to do everything on paper. I’d have spreadsheets everywhere, bits of paper here, print-outs there; It was chaos. What I wanted to do was bring it all together so that I could log into one system that would inform me what needs doing and when. There were occasions where I was invoicing customers four months after we finished because I forgot to invoice them upon completion. I needed something that automatically remind me that I had un-invoiced revenue.

We also wanted something to help us to fulfill the Golden Thread of information.  We have to have an audit trail for everything we do; to show exactly what was done, and when. Consequently, I needed a system that would allow me to upload, store and retrieve each and every piece of documentation and photographic evidence with ease; all to and from one secure location. This is a legal requirement for us.

Which feature of Next Project do you feel has been the most helpful in your day-to-day?

It’s hard to pinpoint, as all the features help us in equal measure, but I’d say having a list of all my projects on the left-hand side is fantastic. Now I can see exactly what we’re doing at any given time. Aside from that, work orders, variations, invoices and document storage are the main ones for me.

How did you find the on-boarding process?

I found the on-boarding to be very good. Having a demo login would have been nice to play around with, but the instructional videos and the one-to-one personalised training was brilliant.

What’s the most interesting project that you’ve ever worked on?

We did an auto storage installation for a retailer. We were the principal contractor for erecting the 3,500 square meters of metsec frame.

Once we were finished, we got to witness these automated robots as they worked to locate and retrieve specific stock items from these tall pods and store them in an area for customer delivery.
