Octopus Energy to invest $20bn in offshore wind by 2030

Britain currently has 11GW of offshore wind capacity, and the government plans to speed up planning approvals in order to deliver more offshore wind farms. Since Octopus Energy Generation entered the offshore wind market in 2022, it has made five deals amounting to a total of $1bn (c.£770m).

Scientists ‘knit’ fungus to create versatile building material

Dubbed ‘mycocrete’, the prototype composite is said to have excellent thermal and acoustic properties, making it suitable for a range of applications. It could be used in insulation or sound-proofing, for instance, replacing foams, timber, and plastics within building interiors.

Government launches biggest cladding removal scheme

The full opening of the Cladding Safety Scheme (CSS), announced in a speech by Housing Secretary Michael Gove, means that costs associated with removing unsafe cladding in mid-rise buildings will now be covered by government funding, protecting leaseholders from costs where the responsible developer cannot be made to pay.
